D. RAMIREZ USA TOUR – BRAZIL // PART V // AUGUST 2009

D. Ramirez & Thomas Schumacher // TribalTech Festival Brazil
Saturday 22.08 (Tribal Tech Festival Curitaba)
Typically we have an early flight and the fact i didn’t finish playing till 6 am means the luxury of sleep is yet again taken away from me – the idea is to sleep when we arrive in Curitiba before the festival. Most of the day is taken up sleeping but before that we venture out into a small town to buy extra clothes as it’s freezing here, much colder than Sao Paulo. It’s one of those small towns where everybody stares at you (a bit like my home town) it reminds us of the Micheal Jackson ‘Thriller’ video (God rest his soul). I’m not playing until 4.30 AM in the morning but i want to get there early this time to catch a few of the acts on stage so we arrange to met Thomas at 11.30 at the bar. There’s a few of us in the minibus together including Jacob from Format B, Carlos from the Southmen, myself and Thomas Schumacher. we arrive after being driven down miles of dirt track and we are driven around the back entrance. As we get out we see the sheer size of the whole thing and as we walk onto the main stage we are greeted by around 15,000 people dancing in the rain and the cold not looking too happy!
I meet up with my friend Chris lake and comment how we always meet in the strangest places. I see a artist called Gustavo performing onstage with a Nintendo Wii, a Playsation, various controllers etc. I meet Tigerskin and chat, i talk to Jacob some more, all the while i notice how the crowd are looking a bit miserable (it’s cold and wet and rainy for Brazil this time of year). We drink neat vodka to warm our sorry asses which in itself is a mission trying to get it back stage. Chris Lake goes on playing a good mix of electro tech (and a lot of Deadmau5) Format B Starts to play – he’s doing a live set of their own stuff and he’s ace! Then it’s Thomas Schumacher who’s keeping it deep and housey, dropping a lot of his well known stuff and then it’s me.
By this point i’ve had a few and i’m psyched and ready to go (i’m not sure if the crowd are though). As soon as i put my first record on it’s like i’m possessed by james Brown himself! I’m jigging around, the people on stage are all jigging around with me, we are having a right old shinndig (must be the vodka) The crowd respond a little, i notice some crazy ass freaks all jumping around at the front and that’s ll i need to spur me on – i’m off! i play a lot of my own tunes including a bootleg of Joy Division’s ‘She’s Lost Control’ i’ve done which goes off! I end with mine and Mark Knights ‘Colombian Soul’ which is still definitely an anthem and i’m done – Success!
We all head back to the hotel in the minibus for a few drinks, I get to bed well and truly cooked! it’s been an amazing experience and i’d like to thank all who made it to the Tribal tech festival in Curitiba who endured the cold weather and the rain to stay and watch me play – i thank you and love you all and i really hope to see you next year.
